Our team at Moermond & Mulligan, LLC recently obtained a huge win, getting the sentence substantially reduced for our client.
We represented a former priest accused of multiple incidents of rape that occurred between 1988 and 1991. Through aggressive negotiation and a focus on protecting our client’s future, we were able to work out a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Our client pleaded guilty to nine counts of rape. Initially facing 99 years to life imprisonment, he was given a seven-year prison sentence. With credit for the two years he spent in jail awaiting trial, our client will only have to serve less than five years.
This win is a significant achievement. Especially because the trial judge said that, had a jury found our client guilty, she would have issued the maximum penalty.
